### Understanding maths!

Today I was helping Imogen with division problems. We got to a question which was something like 24465 divided by 40. I worked through it with Immy, checked the answer and we were out by the power of 10!

Aaaarrrggghh!

No way could I figure out what had gone wrong, and I got an 'A' level in Pure maths! Then came the question of whether to leave a remainder or not. I'm sure I had read a Carol Vorderman book, where it said you shouldn't leave a remainder and should leave a decimal/fraction answer...

Skinny latte time :)

I wish Tom Lehrer was our neighbour...

The question bugged me all day, Geoff came home and spotted the mistake straight away.

At last I could relax...

Maybe we'll have a non-mathematical day tomorrow.

1. Thanks for stopping by!

Hope you’re having a great week and look forward to seeing you again next time!

Visiting from Alphabe-Thursday

PS Love Derbyshire below, too!

2. I am a complete idiot when it comes to math, it's just too hard for me!

3. Great post and video ~ different math world now ~ (A Creative Harbor)

4. Oh, how frustrating! Yep, tomorrow should be an un-math day. :)

5. Solution to your problem is easy - calculator!

6. ah math...it's a tricky deal. One bad teacher and it all goes by the wayside.

7. Thank goodness for calculators!!! That video was truly funny!

8. Hate when something that should be straightforward isn't. Thanks for joining the blogring, good to have you, and looking forward to getting to know you :)

9. I dread having to do this with my son.

10. It's amazing how much of the math we forget when we don't use it every day.

11. Math was my nemesis as a child. I dreaded math time in class, struggled over math homework, and usually bombed math tests.
Anitamomanita - in junior high school (grade 7/8/9) I had the same hideous math teacher 3 years in a row and had him for homework teacher 2 years. He put the final touches on my life long hatred of math. So you are 100% correct - one bad teacher can totally wreck it all!

12. Calculators all the way

13. haha, i understand! i love math, but there's always that one question that gets me stumped.

14. I can't do math -- and my brain MRI proves the connection is blocked!

15. Hands shaking.

Cold sweat here.

Gulp.

Gulp.

Breathing into a paper bag.

Okay.

My anxiety passed.

Kinda.

Sorta.

Math has always given me the heebie jeebies!
